LISTENse empowers the hearing impaired with the perception ability of critical audible information in their environment (e.g. doorbell, smoke alarm, crying child.) About 2% of people in the United States are functionally deaf or suffer from severe hearing impairment. Although half of these people reported their hearing loss after 64 years of age, recent studies show that one million American children of school age have hearing impairments and the figure is growing. This is either genetic or due to the excessive use of personal electronic audio devices.
The basic kit consists of two devices, a Transmitter and a Base Station that will be integrated into a regular watch. Transmitter is placed close to the sound source that it is to be “heard.” As soon as the sound source is activated, the Transmitter will send an activation message to the Base Station. Likewise, upon receiving the activation message, Base Station vibrates and warns the user about the sound by a blinking LED and a text message indicating which sound source has been activated.
The system is easily expandable to several Transmitters to monitor different sound sources. LISTENse is very easy to use and requires absolutely no wiring for installation. In fact, it’s as easy as hanging up a picture on a wall. The starter kit will be available for only $45 and additional Transmitters will cost $20 each. |
