Variations

As mentioned before, milling is a very versatile process. It includes many machining operations such as: slotting, drilling, reaming, facing, and pocket removal.

Slotting

Slotters are vertical shapers that are used for machining notches, keyways, and dies. They are capable of producing complex shapes, such as cutting a helical impeller, in which the workpiece is rotated during the cut through a master cam. Due to low production rate, slotters are generally used in toolrooms, job shops, and repair work.
