Pros / Cons

Advantages:

  • The job shop's distinguishing feature is the production of a wide variety of products.
  • It is the perfect alternative for a specialized part needed in small manufacturing lot sizes.

Disadvantages:

  • It becomes extremely difficult to manage as the production rates grow, resulting in long product throughput times and very large in-process inventory levels.
