More Information

Job shops use various standard general-purpose machine tools (stand-alone machines) or machining centers. The production rate per year is relatively small. However, these operations have high part variety. Different parts can be produced in a short time without extensive changes in production operations and tooling.

Job shop manufacturing is commonly done to specific customer order. Also, job shop produce to fill finished goods inventories.

It usually involves, if any, very low automation level. The workers must have relatively high skill levels to perform a range of different work assignments.
